According to , Xabi Alonso would prefer to keep Garcia after his impressive spell in the Club World Cup and overall performance in the 2024-25 season. Mendy will be sold as Madrid have already bought Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, relegating the French left-back to third choice.

Under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, Spanish left-back Garcia got the chance to display his skills, owing to Mendy's constant injuries. The club made the decision regarding Garcia after AC Milan showed interest in the 25-year-old. The Italian side reportedly wanted to sign Garcia on the basis of Luka Modric's recommendation.
