Speaking after Celtic’s victory over Ross County on Saturday afternoon, Neil Lennon has lauded Odsonne Edouard as “almost talismanic”.
What did he say?
The Frenchman came off the bench to score a quick-fire brace and seal a comfortable 3-0 victory for the Bhoys. It now means Edouard has scored 19 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions this season – not to mention his quite impressive 15 assists too.
And speaking after the match, Lennon exclaimed that the 22-year-old is right up there with some of the very best to have worn a Celtic shirt over the last couple of decades.

He said (as quoted by BBC Sport): “His foot was in a boot. But he did a fitness session last night and said it felt a lot better. He looked fine and fresh and you could see the lift he gave to the team and his second goal was a great finish.
“He is hugely important. He is an outstanding footballer, almost talismanic. He is up there with some of the best we’ve had over the last 20 years. Odsonne is playing better than ever and we are delighted with that.”
Special praise
Talk about waxing lyrical about someone. Lennon’s gushing comments on Edouard speaks volumes of just how important the Frenchman has been to his side. His aforementioned goal tally has been one of the main reasons why they are still at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, and having a proven goal-scorer like that is invaluable.
The Bhoys have got a rich history of talented strikers, particularly in recent memory – Henrik Larsson of course being one of the standout names. The former Sweden international spent seven incredible years at Celtic Park between 1997 and 2004, netting a whopping 174 league goals in just 218 games.

Edouard on the other hand still has a long way to go to get anywhere near that mark, finding the back of the net 52 times in 115 games for the Scottish side. But if he does stay with the Hoops for another couple of seasons, you wouldn’t put it past him to break through the 100 goal barrier. And that would be the most defining statement of them all.
Meanwhile, Celtic star Scott Brown has delivered a glowing verdict on this player.
