England midfield ace Frank Lampard believes that he and his colleagues are genuine contenders for World Cup glory, thanks to the structure and discipline introduced by head coach Fabio Capello.
Italian Capello guided England to nine wins out of ten in qualification, leaving Lampard with a belief that his side can challenge for glory in South Africa this summer.
He told the Daily Mirror:"We are going into this World Cup with a very good mindset, especially when you compare where we are to where we were.
"There was a time when we played for England when we didn't believe we could beat anybody, almost. Now there is a real belief when we run out on to the pitch.
"We were a group of individuals who were not doing what we were capable of doing, but Capello brought us into line from the start."
Meanwhile, Lampard's club and international colleague John Terry is confident that England will learn from their World Cup quarter-final exit four years ago, when they lost out in a penalty shootout to Portugal.
He told The Sun:"People keep talking about England losing on penalties and all I can say is that most of the players in this squad have lived through those mistakes and learned from them.
"We know that whatever happens in South Africa, we can never feel any worse than we did in Germany.
"And now we have to use that experience to put things right."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
